PREMIERES + REVIEW : Hyenah – Elinga [Watergate Records] & Hyenah – ‘You Made Me Who I Am’ [RISE]
Hyenah – one of the scene’s best kept secrets and afro-house’s most charted artists – returns this month with a handful of stunning releases – including ‘Elinga’, as part of Watergate’s all-star 15th anniversary compilation, and ‘You Made Me Who I Am’ as part of RISE Music’s second instalment, following their acclaimed debut Masala EP.
As to ‘Elinga’, named after a popular music bar where Hyenah once performed in Luanda (Angola), the African-rooted maestro, who in only 3 years already teamed up with the finest such as Frankey & Sandrino, Manoo, Rampa, Denis Horvat and Jimpster, incidentally a resident at Watergate’s RISE nights in Berlin, offers a glittering, drummy build-up boasting a dancefloor-geared swinging beat and a combination of harmonic sounds.
PREMIERE : Hyenah – Elinga [Watergate Records]
When it comes to ‘You Made Me Who I Am’, supported by the like of Culoe de Song and Floyd Lavine, Hyenah delivers another magical, perfectly engineered banger sitting between current afro-beat and soulful melodic house. The steady pulse will soon give place to a tense strings-driven build-up before a sudden epic breakdown eventually comes into play – goosebumps guaranteed!
PREMIERE : Hyenah – You Made Me Who I Am [RISE]
